Discuss your project

Exposure matters as much as appearance

Distance from the water is only part of the picture. Shelter, salt deposits, moisture and how easily the gate can be cleaned affect the conditions it faces. Tell us about the site rather than relying on a general label such as coastal grade.

Aluminium is not the same as maintenance-free

Aluminium avoids the iron rust associated with steel, which can make it attractive for coastal projects. It can still corrode, and a coating does not make damaged edges or incompatible joints irrelevant.

The material needs to work with the span, frame design and movement. An aluminium leaf is not automatically the right answer for every opening, just as a steel leaf is not automatically unsuitable near the bay.

When steel is considered

A design may call for the stiffness or section arrangement offered by steel. The question then is which preparation, protection and maintenance system is appropriate for that site. Ask for the proposed specification rather than assuming powder coating alone resolves all corrosion risks.

The coating is a system, not just a colour

Our fabricated gates and panels are powder coated at our Dandenong workshop. Preparation, product selection and application all matter. For an exposed site, the chosen system and any warranty conditions should be discussed before the colour is finalised.

Design & installation details

Hardware, joints, drainage and any work that breaks the finished surface also need attention. Do not assume that every stainless-steel fitting is compatible with every frame without considering how the components meet.

Care after installation

Follow the care instructions for the coating and hardware used on your job. Cleaning needs can vary with exposure, and sheltered areas may retain deposits. Avoid abrasive or unapproved cleaning methods and seek advice when damage is noticed.

Design & installation details

For automated gates, keep water away from electrical equipment and arrange appropriate servicing. Exterior cleaning is not a substitute for checking the gate’s mechanical condition and safety measures.

Understand the warranty before accepting the quote

Ask what the written warranty covers, which exclusions or care conditions apply, and whether different components have separate terms. We do not describe a coastal gate as corrosion-proof or assume a standard warranty covers every exposure.

Check the property controls

For your Beaumaris address, confirm any relevant fence, planning and vegetation controls with Bayside City Council. A tree near proposed post holes or a design overlay can affect the project as well as fence height.

This is general information. Requirements and site conditions need to be checked for the individual property before work proceeds.

Plan the whole frontage

Send a photo of your gate opening or fence line, your preferred style and any information about exposure. We can discuss the material, finish and matching gates as one project.

Brian and his team put a fence and sliding gate in our front yard and really happy with the results. It is everything that we expected plus more. Brian is very honest and will deliver on what he says he will do. Highly recommend Brian for his expertise and service!
