Made for Brighton
Your home sets the brief.
- 01Street appeal
- Start with a photo and the way you want to use your entrance.
- 02Matching gates
- We assess the opening, supports and movement before confirming a design.
- 03Privacy & openness
- Choose the material and finish alongside the character of your home.
Start with the house and the view from the street
A front fence can frame the house or provide more screening. The right balance depends on what you want to keep visible, where the garden sits and how the entrance is used. Bring a photo of the frontage and examples of the styles you prefer.
Design & installation details
Rather than assuming every Brighton home needs a traditional fence, we look at the individual building. An open picket or tube design may suit one frontage, while a slat or batten arrangement may work better with another.
Open styles for a traditional frontage
Vertical infill can keep the garden and architectural details visible from the street. The spacing, top line and gate proportions should be planned together so the entrance feels deliberate rather than added afterwards.
Design & installation details
Where heritage or other design controls apply, the preferred material, height and transparency may need council assessment. A style that looks sympathetic is not, by itself, confirmation that approval is unnecessary.
Slats and battens for a more private frontage
For a design with stronger screening, consider how the proposed infill relates to the house, garage door and neighbouring frontage. Colour samples can help compare finishes in daylight.
Closer spacing also affects visibility around vehicle access and may increase wind loading on a gate. Those practical requirements need to be checked alongside the appearance.
Choose the gate from the available space
A swing gate needs a clear opening arc inside the property. A sliding gate needs a suitable run-back area along the fence. Telescopic or bifold arrangements may be worth assessing where space is restricted, but each has its own support and clearance requirements.
Check approvals before the design is final
For a Brighton address, start with Bayside City Council and the planning information for the property. Check the zone and any heritage or other overlays, as well as the proposed height, boundary position and driveway access.
A building-permit exemption is not a blanket planning exemption. Confirm any required approvals before fabrication. This page is general information, not a permit assessment for your property.
Matching the fence and gates
We can discuss the front fence, driveway gate and pedestrian gate as one design. Material, infill and finish can be coordinated while allowing for the different structural and movement requirements of each component.
Arrange the next step
Send your Brighton suburb details, approximate opening width and a photo from the street. Tell us whether the project includes a new fence, a replacement gate or both.
Brian and his team put a fence and sliding gate in our front yard and really happy with the results. It is everything that we expected plus more. Brian is very honest and will deliver on what he says he will do. Highly recommend Brian for his expertise and service!
